The move itself is modest, but it signals to fabric suppliers that the entry points into sleep scenarios are widening, and the eye mask is the textile-adjacent piece.

Loop built a user base in Europe and the US with reusable earplugs. Its new sleep mask means the brand is no longer addressing noise alone but trying to cover light and touch as part of a fuller sleep environment. For textiles, the more important signal is that the boundary of sleep wearables is migrating from silicone and foam toward woven and knitted fabrics.
Eye masks are a typical small home textile, built from a light-blocking layer, a filling layer and a skin-contact layer. These products used to be absorbed by gift channels, with low unit prices and loose fabric requirements. When a brand treats the mask as part of a sleep system, fabric moves from accessory to functional component, and sourcing standards rise.
The fabric requirements are not complex, but each points to a clear performance target. Light blocking depends on weave density and coating, skin comfort on fiber fineness and finishing, breathability on filling structure. The sleep economy's pull on textiles shows first in order structure. Eye mask orders used to be tens of thousands of units in single colors and styles. Brands now prefer small batches, multiple colorways and iterative development. This favors small and mid-sized fabric mills in Shaoxing and Nantong, whose flexible quick-response capability is a strength, provided they can supply traceable functional test reports.
Certification is the second gate. European and US sleep brands are tightening requirements for OEKO-TEX and GRS, especially on skin-contact layers. Fabrics without certification struggle to enter brand supply chains even at lower prices. This directly affects export-oriented firms: certification costs must be built into quotes, or later verification will eat margins.
Sustainability narrative is the third factor. Brands like Loop carry an environmental label, so masks using recycled polyester or organic cotton are more likely to enter their material selection. For chemical fiber producers, recycled chips and differentiated fibers may land faster in sleep accessories than in main apparel fabrics, because volumes are small and trial costs are low.
On price transmission, fabric unit prices for sleep masks will not be high, but added value concentrates in functional finishing. Whoever stabilizes light-blocking coating, antibacterial finishing or cooling treatment can command a premium. That is more sustainable than competing on weight and width alone.

Competition in sleep-category fabrics is about certification in the short term, functional finishing in the medium term and brand lock-in in the long term. For buyers and exporters, there is still room to enter, but the window will not stay open.
