Dunhuang murals contain extraordinarily rich textile elements, covering the highest-level fabric patterns of the Tang Dynasty: honeysuckle scrolls (arabesque), treasure flower motifs, cloud-vapor patterns, linked pearl patterns, soaring phoenix patterns — irreplaceable primary sources for studying China's traditional pattern system.
Contemporary Application Cases
Shanghai Textile Museum collaborated with designer Chen Ruolin to digitize linked pearl patterns from Dunhuang Cave 158's "Nirvana" mural, creating a series of jacquard fabrics that generated powerful responses at Paris Fashion Week. The series was subsequently ordered by multiple French haute couture brands at ¥800/meter.
